Custom Orthotics
What are orthotics?
Orthotics are devices worn inside your shoes to help provide support and correct a wide array of foot, ankle, and gait-related issues. Made of synthetic materials or leather, orthotics are one of the most effective solutions for many foot issues, including:
Chronic foot and ankle pain
Structural deformities
Weak or “fallen” arches
Plantar fasciitis
Hammertoes
Corns, calluses and bunions
Gait problems
Custom-made orthotics can also be helpful for people facing age-related issues like arthritis and for those who have gained a significant amount of weight, causing increased pressure on the feet and the arches, as well as people who have suffered traumatic injuries and those with chronic medical conditions that affect the feet, like diabetes.
Are custom orthotics the same as the shoe inserts I can buy in the drugstore?
Custom orthotics are made for the individual wearer, which means they're designed to address specific issues while achieving a fit that's customized based on the person's foot size, shape, weight, gait and the issues they're facing. Off-the-shelf products purchased in a drugstore are mass produced for a general population, which means they can't provide the same support or relief as a custom orthotic, and in some cases, they may actually exacerbate an existing problem. Custom-made orthotics are also designed to last much longer than over-the-counter inserts.
Are custom orthotics paid for by insurance?
Many insurance companies as well as Medicare Part B do provide partial or full compensation for custom orthotics. Review your plan or call your plan administrator to determine if you have coverage for orthotics, or ask our staff to check on your coverage for you.
How can I tell if custom orthotics are right for me?
During your office exam, special techniques will be used to determine if your symptoms or problems can be relieved or alleviated by custom-made orthotics.
